At Learning Bugs we offer an early reading class for toddlers and children under 5. Learning to read takes time and is much more than understanding letters on a page. Its starts when they are just a baby and listening to the sounds around them. Our voice is a huge tool in enabling children to engage with the spoken word. This class follows the phase 1 recommendations as set out in the DfE Letters and Sounds Publication. It focuses on getting the children attuned to the sounds around them and lays foundations for future learning by emphasising speaking and listening skills. Story time takes centre stage at our early readers class and the children will be able to engage with the stories through puppets, rhymes and songs. They will take part in games that enables them to practice orally segmenting and blending, a key skill in early reading, through stories, music and rhyme. The children will also have time to explore activities that will target their age related development level.
