Why It Works
At birth, a baby can focus about 20-30cm away - roughly the distance to your face when you're holding them. They can't make out colour yet. What they can see is contrast: bold black against white, with red appearing as their vision develops.
Which is why most baby toys don't work in those first weeks. Pastel rattles and soft colours are lovely, but a newborn simply can't register them.
Every item in this box is built around that. High contrast, the right size, held at the right distance.
How it Develops Your Baby
Sensory Tummy Time Board: Neck strength, gives them a reason to lift their head
Sensory Cards (starter): vision and visual tracking in the first weeks
Sensory Cards (follow-on): More detailed patterns as their sight sharpens
Mirror Card: Self-awareness, babies are drawn to faces including their own
Sensory Maraca: Hand control, grip, hearing
Sensory Foil Blanket: Kicking and rolling, gross motor development
Sensory Decals: Distraction during nappy changes and bath time
My First Sensory Book: Vision and bonding, page by page together
Sensory Play Guide: For you, when to use each item and why
Why This, Not a Drawer of Random Toys
Most baby toys are bought hopefully.
You pick something up because it's sweet, or because someone recommended it, and it sits in the corner while your baby stares at the curtains.
The difference here is sequence. These items are designed to be used in a particular order, at particular stages, for particular reasons and the play guide tells you which and when.
Age and stage appropriate. Nothing your newborn can't hold, see or respond to.
Built around milestones. The same developmental markers your health visitor uses.
Designed with the science. Not decoration that happens to be black and white, but contrast chosen because that's what a newborn's eyes can process.
FAQ
What's in the box?
Nine sensory items plus a play guide for parents. Full list in the product description.
What age is it for?
From birth to around 6 months though plenty of babies keep using the cards and mirror well beyond that.
My baby is already 3 months. Is it too late?
Not at all. The box is designed to carry through to 6+ months, and several items such as the tummy time board and the maraca come into their own at exactly this stage.
My baby was premature. Does this still apply?
Yes. Use their adjusted age rather than birth age. High-contrast stimulation is especially useful for premature visual development.
Is it safe?
Everything is designed for newborns. As with any baby toy, use under adult supervision.
Is it a good gift?
It's one of our most-bought new baby gifts. It arrives boxed and ready to give.
When will it arrive?
3-5 working days
