Give their favourite stories a proper place to live. The Story Shelf is a front-facing bookshelf designed so children can see every cover, choose what they fancy, and reach it themselves, no asking for help needed.

Because books are displayed face-out rather than spine-out, little ones are drawn in by the pictures and learn to browse and choose independently, a small but meaningful step towards confident, self-led reading.

Each shelf is handcrafted in small batches in the Autumn's Corner workshop in Wales, using solid ash and traditional dovetail joinery. There's no flat-pack construction and no shortcuts, just real furniture built to be used every day and to last well beyond the nursery years.

The recessed front bar is hand-painted and comes in a range of colourways, so the shelf can sit happily within your existing decor rather than standing apart from it. It's a piece families tend to add one of, and then come back for a second.

Dimensions and Fit

Available in five lengths: 40cm, 50cm, 60cm, 70cm and 80cm. Height 15cm, depth 13cm.

Arrives fully assembled with fixtures, fittings and a fitting template included, ready to hang on the wall.

Materials and Safety

Made from solid ash, a strong, durable hardwood from sustainably managed forests. Ash has a pale tone and natural swirling grain, so each shelf has its own subtle character, with variations in grain considered part of its charm rather than a flaw. The painted front bar uses child-safe paint tested to the EU safety standard for children's products.

Delivery and Returns

This is a made-to-order piece, handcrafted once you order it, so please allow 10 to 12 working days for dispatch (a little longer during busy periods).
